Position
Summary:


The Medical Assistant role provides clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.


Duties and Responsibilities


1. Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by the Providers according to policy and procedure


2. Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse


3. Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure


4. Communicates patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes


5. Accurate and timely documentation of care within EPIC system


6. Performs point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed


7. Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures


8. Performs routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed


9. Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms


10. Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues


11. Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members

Technical Expertise


1. Experience in phlebotomy is preferred


2. Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology is required


3. Experience working in healthcare environment is preferred


4. Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required


5. Experience working in electronic medical record (i.e., EPIC) or similar software is preferred


Education and Experience


1. Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required


2. Completion of an approved (valid) Medical Assistant Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required


3. Certification:
Medical Assistant certification preferred


4. Years of relevant

Working conditions


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, walk, stand, sit, bend, reach with hands and arms, climb, push/pull, use hands, and see, hear, and speak.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in the standing position most of the time, except when documenting patient care.


The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.


This position works in an environment in which there is potential exposure to items that may present health problems. To mitigate this risk, the employee must wear appropriate protective equipment, demonstrate awareness of the environment, obtain knowledge of risk factors, and adhere to safety guidelines.
